What We Believe

First and foremost, Hickory Grove is a church deeply rooted in the Christian faith.

We say “amen” to the core creeds and covenants of the historic church. This includes the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed. We believe in the saving power of God through Jesus. We believe in God’s revelation as a Triune God.

Secondly, Hickory Grove is a United Methodist Church. The United Methodist Church, formed in 1968, is the inheritor of a rich tradition begun in the 1700s by John Wesley. Wesley’s disciplined commitment to the Scriptures and innovative ideas around mission were a gift to the Church. His movement is responsible for the transformation of our world through its countless schools, hospitals, seminaries, and relief efforts.

We believe that we are saved through God’s grace, which is available to all people. We believe that our salvation comes not through any effort or achievement on our part; rather, we believe that salvation is God’s gift.

The United Methodist Church is open to all people. We believe God’s grace isn’t exclusive to anyone. Consequently, our practice of communion is open to all.
